Description
The choreography involves a paper set which is manipulated by the dancers during the performance. A ritual of planting seeds and dancing for spirits as well as the celebration of darkness and light becomes part of the sequence in the dance as the stage is transformed by the dancers to enclose the space with reams of paper descending from above. The essence of the choreography stems from the bonds between women and nature, earth and light, seasons and submission, sound and silence. The sounds of paper wrinkling and swaying becomes part of the score. Paper is torn and wrapped around bodies, thrown into the air and used like sand in the sand paintings as in native cultures. | |
